Empirical Research:

Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 are essential vitamins that work together to promote bone and joint health. Vitamin D3 helps with calcium absorption, while Vitamin K2 activates proteins in blood vessels that deposit calcium into bone tissue.

A  study was performed with 172 postmenopausal women with osteopenia and osteoporosis (bone deficiency). The women were divided into 4 groups and were given Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2, a combination of Vitamin D3 and K2, and dietary therapy only. The vertebral bone mineral density was measured prior to therapy and after 6, 12, 18, and 24 months of treatment. The main objective of the study is to investigate the effect of vitamin D3 and K2 on postmenopausal women with bone deficiency.

According to the study, taking both vitamin K2 and D3 together for 24 months resulted in a significant increase in bone mineral density by 3.05%. In comparison, taking only vitamin D3, vitamin K2, or dietary therapy resulted in 0.57%, 1.37%, and -4.05% (decreased or lower improvement in the bone mineral density), respectively. With the combination of Vitamin D3 and K2, the measured bone markers showed that both bone resorption and formation were stimulated.  

The study concludes that continuous combination therapy with vitamin K2 and D3 is useful for increasing vertebral bone mass in postmenopausal women.

Moreover, no negative side effects were noticed, and the improvement in coagulation function shown during this therapy was within the normal range.
